Polly Menendez Physical Therapy Burlington VT

About

I have been in private practice providing massage and Physical therapy since 2002. Over the years, I have added additional strategies to my approach but the overall philosophy of facilitating ease through release of tension in the body and teaching exercises and awareness strategies has remained the same.

I have been a practicing Physical Therapist since 1981. I have worked in a variety of settings including 15 years in rehabilitation hospitals in Boston and Vermont, home care, schools and outpatient physical therapy clinics. I earned a B.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin- Madison (1981) and an M.S. in Physical Therapy from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions (1990).

I completed Massage Training at the Shearer Institute of Natural Healing in Santa Fe New Mexico in 2001 and Structural Integration Training from Kinesis in 2004. More recently, I have been attending Zero Balancing workshops and am increasingly incorporating this approach into my work.

Now in my 60s, I continue to enjoy my work. I have been “practicing what I preach” for years - working with my own movement and postural patterns so that I can maintain the active lifestyle I enjoy. As I get older, I am more convinced that I need these strategies to keep me going. I enjoy incorporating concepts of Chi Walking and Running, Total Immersion Swimming and yoga into my own life. I love to cross-country ski and ride my bike and continue to do multi day bike tours.

I value creativity. I have many creative interest including painting, a variety of fiber arts and the garden. Although people, bodies and injuries have many similarities, I find that each person brings a unique set of circumstances and this allows me to bring creativity into my work. Working creatively with people is what continues to make my work enjoyable.
